I tried to visit your offices the other day, but got lost in the mall. Where exactly are the offices of Family Dynamics?
Our offices are located on the 4th floor in Portage Place Mall (401-393 Portage Ave.). If you are in the underground parking lot, you must use the elevator which is painted green and marked with a “B”. If you are on the main floor of the mall, find the elevators on the Portage Avenue side of the mall midway between the fountain and the food court.
Do you offer parenting classes?
Our Counselling Program provides parent counselling for individuals and couples and intervention into troubled parent/child and parent/teen relationships.
Our Parent Coach Program provides home based support in situations where families have identified the need to learn more in-depth-parenting and/or home management skills.
Family and Child Care Resources:
Can you help me find child care for my child?
If your child or family has special needs or is in crisis we may be able to assist with accessing child care. We assist many newcomers to Canada and families with diverse needs such as mental health, social isolation, and parenting issues.
Most families seeking child care visit Manitoba Early Learning and Child Care Program online or phone child care information services at 204-945-0776 for a list of licensed child care centres, family child care homes and nursery schools and to check subsidy eligibility and apply on line.
My day care provider says that if my child’s behaviour doesn’t improve, she is going to give him notice. Can you help?
Yes, contact us at 204-947-1401. The Family and Child Care Resources Program, Behaviour Support Coordinators work with families, licensed child care centres, family child care homes, nursery schools and other community services such as the Child Development Clinic, Speech and Language Pathologists and Occupational Therapists. They may observe your child in the child care facility or at home, consult with you and your provider, develop appropriate strategies, advocate for supports, refer to other services and/or coordinate a service plan for your family.
May I attend the Learning Opportunities offered at Family Dynamics?
Priority is given to licensed child care providers, but others working in early learning and child care programs, as well as family support workers and parent coaches are welcome to attend. All workshops are located at Family Dynamics, 401-393 Portage Ave (Portage Place), from 7:00 – 9:00 pm and they are FREE.
Contact Anne Grewar at 204-947-1401 for more information.
Family Support Program and Parent Coach Program:
Who is eligible for the In-Home Family Support and Parent Coach Program?
An In-Home Family Support Worker may be provided to your family during a time of need. You may qualify for service if your family is experiencing an illness or hospitalization, struggles with parenting and children’s behaviour, has had a multiple birth or you are feeling overwhelmed and having difficulty coping. A Parent Coach may be provided to your family if you want to improve your parenting and/or home management skills.
Families must reside in Winnipeg. We do not provide before school, lunch hour or after school care, or care that requires overnight or changing/various shifts.
How long will I have to wait to get a Family Support Worker or Parent Coach?
There is a waiting list for both the Family Support and Parent Coach Programs. We prioritize families with the greatest needs rather than on a first come-first served basis. The average wait list for a day time Family Support Worker is 3-6 months. The wait for evening and weekend service is 6 – 12 months. The wait list for the Parent Coach Program is typically 1-2 months.
When the Family Support Worker comes to my home, how will they help?
At the start of service a plan is made with you and your Family Support Coordinator. The plan focuses on your goals that will help strengthen your family and help you manage on your own. The Family Support Worker will work with you to help care for your children, provide child care if you have important appointments in the community, offer household help when necessary and provide information about other community resources.
How will a Parent Coach help me?
A Parent Coach will help you work towards reaching the goals that you establish at the start of service to improve your parenting and/or home management skills. They will use a variety of different approaches such as discussion, problem solving, observation and role modeling. They will share information, learning resources and provide support and encouragement as you explore a variety of parenting approaches to help your family. They usually visit 1-2 times each week. A Parent Coach cannot watch your children while you attend appointments.
My husband and I both work full time and can’t find daycare. Can we have a Family Support Worker?
No, we are not a long-term child care plan. The Manitoba Early Learning and Child Care Program provides subsidized child care to meet the general need for child care of working parents. Check the following website for more information: www.gov.mb.ca/childcare.
How do I apply for counselling?
As a United Way Agency, we offer counselling to individuals, couples, and families who live, work or are studying within the City of Winnipeg. To apply for counselling contact our Counselling Intake Line at 204-947-1401 during office hours.
What issue can I talk about in counselling?
Counselling is a process of expanding your options and building on your own resources. Some common issues resolved through counselling are: anger management, relationship conflicts, separation and divorce, depression, stress, childhood trauma, adult trauma, self-esteem, parenting skills and personal wellbeing.
How long can I see a counsellor?

How much does counselling cost at Family Dynamics?
All fees are based on a sliding scale which takes into account your income and your family size. Family Dynamics is a proud Agency Partner of United Way Winnipeg. Thanks to the generous financial support of United Way Winnipeg, other funders and private donations, your counselling fee can be subsidized. We will not refuse service to anyone because of inability to pay.
Can I get counselling on weekends?
